Playlist.com is a social networking site where music lovers can maintain their playlists of favorite songs. The site allows users to build and host playlists on their profile page. Playlists can also be embedded in the user's pages at the major social networking sites. The site features a browser-based music player embedded directly on the user's profile page. Users are given a URL to their profile for sharing with friends. The site can be searched by tracks or playlists for new music to be added to the user's playlist, and the user can add music directly from the search results. Users can have Friends, message other users and Follow other users. In addition, each user has their own blog on the site.

Users can also maintain photos on the site, have a favorites list, and leave comments on playlists. The site provides tools for maintaining and managing playlists as well. The site generates code for posting the user's playlist on MySpace, Facebook, Gaia and Friendster, The site can also generate generic code for embedding the user's playlist on any website or blog. Users have a My Account page, which shows tabs for their Profile, Blog, Photos, Messages and Favorites. There are also links to My Playlists and Post Playlist. The user's account page also shows a summary of the user's playlists, blog posts, comments, favorites, people they are following and people following them. Playlist.com pays royalties to the owners of all content, so the site is entirely legal.

Palo Alto, CA-based Playlist.com was founded in February 2006 by Jeremy Riney. John Sykes currently serves as CEO of the company.
